Maison Neuve is located in the heart of the 'Livradois-Forez' regional nature park. The park, with an area of 320,000 hectares, is located in two departments (Puy-de-Dôme and Haute-Loire) of the Auvergne region. The park has two mountain ranges, Livradois and Forez, with the valley of the river 'Dore' in between.
The Livradois is the oldest mountain range and therefore more hilly and mountainous compared to the Forez. These two mountain ranges, together with the valley of the river Dore, provide a varied environment, in which no kilometer that you travel here is equal. One moment you are in the middle of the forest, with a stream next to the road, then again you have a beautiful view of the surroundings.
From the 'Col du Béal' (French explanation of: 'Col du Béal') you have a beautiful view when the weather is nice, with the department 'Loire' in the east followed by the alps and in the west the depertement 'Puy- de-Dôme ', whose volcano chain is unmissable.
Ambert is definitely worth a visit and is especially known for the blue mold cheese, the Fourme d'Ambert. Close to Ambert, the paper museum 'Richard de Bas' is more than worth a visit. This is the last, still working, paper mill. Here you can see with your own eyes how people lived and worked in the past.
In the south of the nature park we find La Chaise-Dieu. A large music festival is organized here every August. A visit to the Abbey is also worthwhile.
